Product Storage and Retrieval System St. Louis, Missouri
United Industries Corporation, parent company
of both Spectrum Brands and Chemsico Corporation, is a leader
in the manufacture and distribution of lawn and garden and
insect control products. The company produces and distributes
its products to hundreds of retail customers representing
more than 70,000 retail stores in the United States.
United Industries Corporation contracted with ACME Erectors
to install their Rapistan System for the storage and retrieval
of products at their St. Louis Distribution Center. The installation
is a design prepared by Materials Management Concepts, Inc.,
which allows for products arriving from United Industries
production facilities to be sorted for bulk storage. The sorted
products are then inventoried in six rows of multi-level storage
racks.
Employees preparing shipments pick products from inventory
and deposit them on the multi-level conveyors that are located
between alternate rows of the storage racks. The conveyors
transport the shipments to the 22 sorting lanes, where
they are scanned, bulk packaged and stretch wrapped, for
truck shipment to customers.
