Pulitzer Foundation for the Arts St. Louis, Missouri
This piece was on loan to the St. Louis Art
Museum for more than 10 years, where it was displayed in
the southeast corner of Sculpture Hall. ACME's scope entailed
dismantling the piece from the St. Louis Art Museum (coordinating
with PFA,
SLAM and other outside contractors), loading and protecting
for shipment, coordinating
the size and entry paths with PFA, unloading and moving into
the PFA, and installing the piece
in its new location.
This piece is made up of four pieces of steel
all weighing in excess of 8,000 pounds. The design in its
final state is balanced. Unfortunately, this also means during
installation and dismantling the piece is unstable. Through
a two-month planning process and full size mock-up practice
and planning sessions, we installed "Joplin" in
half the time and for half the cost estimated. Steve Morby
(PFA) says, "ACME is it! We won't use any other company."
