Pulitzer Foundation for the Arts St. Louis, Missouri
This piece of artwork was purchased by Emily
Pulitzer in Germany and shipped via barge to the U.S. where
ACME
entered the picture. This sculpture is made up of five interlocking
rolled steel plates, each weighing about 40,000 lbs. Our
scope
of work consisted of coordinating the receipt of the five
pieces at a local Mississippi River shipping dock, unloading
the art from the barge and loading them onto "double-drop"
extendable trailers, planning and executing the delivery
path, including all permitting for oversized loads, covering
and
storing the art while on site, and final installation.
Hoisting from the barges proved challenging because the only
dock large enough to receive the artwork was 30 feet above
water level. In additon to this hurdle the pieces were too
heavy
for the "double-drop" trailer in its extended position.
This was the only position which would enable us to navigate
the delivery path through downtown St. Louis. All obstacles
were overcome and the piece was installed without a flaw.
Performance was such Ms. Pulitzer recently hired ACME
to install two more Serra sculptures in her Pulitzer Foundation
for the Arts.
