Structural Steel Installation
St. Louis, Missouri

ACME Erectors served as a subcontractor to McGrath and Associates for the installation of structural steel to support a new Magnetic Resonance Imaging, or MRI, unit on the third floor of the existing Shoenberg Pavilion. The work was necessary because the new MRI units were extremely heavy, which required that the existing concrete framed building be reinforced in order to accommodate the medical equipment. ACME Erectors was selected to install the steel members to allow for the installation.
The scope of ACME’s work involved installing thirty-six steel beams, weighing an average of one ton each. Initially, ACME attached plates and angles to the existing concrete framing to serve as connections for the steel support beams. The beams were then hoisted through window openings and moved into position on the floor, below their final locations. They were then raised safely into position and welded or bolted in place. All work inside of the building was accomplished using only hand operated tools. In 2002, this project received a “Keystone Award” from the Associated General Contractors of Missouri, recognizing the work for outstanding achievement.
